The West African senior school certificate examination today commenced across the country including the Northern region where a total of 14,805 students are participating in the examination.
As such, the MCE for Sagnarigu in the Northern region, Hon. Mariam Idrissu have toured all the senior high schools in her area.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Mariam said, as the representative of the President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo, she sees it as duty bound to go round all the examination centres in the municipality to see how the students have started their exams and to encourage them and to also advice them to stay away from exam malpractices.
She revealed that, in her rounds, she observed that the exams have started without any hitches.
Hon. Mariam recalled that, two weeks ago some students started with the practicals of which within the Sagnarigu municipality, two schools, (Tamasco and Kalpohin senior high school) offer visual arts and so they started with the practicals two weeks ago and she was there to see how that was going.
Responding to government’s contribution at educational sector in her municipality, the MCE explained that, the Nana Addo led administration apart from Free SHS, has provided enough furniture to all Senior High Schools in her municipality.
“We don’t have problem with furniture anymore, even before the government’s intervention, as a Municipal Chief Executive and the Assembly, we on our own provided over 2,000 mono and dual desk to all educational institutions within the municipality and we are working progressively toward ensuring that we are done with it all furniture deficit.” Hon. Mariam explained.
Meanwhile the Sagnarugu CEO implored Ghanaians see the need to look at the relief brought to parents as far as education is concerned and other policies at the various sectors andgive the NPP government four more years to do more for them.
She added that “because they are the first batch of free senior high school policy, the expectation is that the pass rate would be encouraging for Ghanaians to know that in fact the free senior high school policy is a good policy, It is not just to increase intake of students but also to ensure that they come out passing all their exams well and progressing to the next higher level of education.”
In all the Sagnarigu municipality has a total number of 2,768 candidates sitting for this year’s examination, out of this, 989 are females representing 36% of the total number while 1,779 males representing 64%.
