Avoid using drugs for sports and for studies – Zabzugu DCE

The use of prohibited drugs or methods to improve training and sporting results of sports men and women has come under stiff condemnation by pundits and people in authority.

Doping refers to an athlete’s use of other forbidden drugs such as stimulants, hormones, diuretics, narcotics and marijuana use of forbidden methods such as blood transfusions or gene doping.

The dire effects of this practice on sports men and women has made the DCE for Zabzugu, Hon.Ahmed Iddrisu Abubakari Adakwa urged the youth in particular to desist from the act of using performance enhancing drugs in everything they do especially games and sports.
He was speaking as the special Guest speaker during the Northern Regional Basic schools under 13 boys soccer championship in Zabzugu.
“May I take this opportunity to call on especially the youth of today to compete and study at your best without the influence of drugs. Please be mindful of the fact that drug use in sports constitute a grievous offense and therefore attracts appropriate sanctions.”

He however reminded the students on the need for being involved in sporting activities, saying “be reminded that your active participation in sports programs of this nature will make you physically fit, intellectually alert and above all, you will cultivate the spirit of patriotism, tolerance and a good sense of sportsmanship.”

Mr. Adakwa implored parents to protect their children and invest in their education.
“We must jealously protect them (the children) and give good education. It is therefore not by chance but a well thought-of plan by H. E President Nana Akuffo Addo to implement the free SHS policy, such that all Ghanaian children should have access to secondary education and damn poverty and its consequences.”
